If you're looking for an explosion of muscatel, this tea might not be a good choice for you. The classic Darjeeling muscatel is subdued, revealing lovely background notes of vanilla citrus. Let your nose do the tasting first and enjoy the complexity of this tasty tea. By the way, I always weigh my teas, and use 6 grams per 12 oz (2 tea cups) of water.

I have been ordering this tea for several years running and find it to be consistant and reliable. This year's is no exception and I especially like knowing that it comes from an estate that practices bio-dynamics and has a commitment to Fair Trade policies. It's mellow and light with subtle flavors - just right for a mid-afternoon tea with a cookie...or two!

147 Darjeeling Makaibari FTGFOP1S Organic Flowery aroma. Seems to have hints of bergamot, like an Earl Grey. A light tea. Subtle flavors. Amber yes, dark no. I brewed it for 5 minutes, still too light for my taste. Maybe I will crush it up next time.

Flavors and characteristics: mellow, smooth, biscuity or chocolately (depending on who's tasting it), maybe apricot. Good, but I like the crisper darjeelings. Try the 135 Darjeeling Selimbong FTGFOP01 Organic for a crisper, well-balanced and well-priced organic darjeeling. The Selimbong estate also makes a delicious green darjeeling (organic). If you like darjeelings, you owe it to yourself to try the green.

An exceptional experience; highly tolerant of forgettful steeps. Aroma is fresh floral.. sweet, which follows through on the taste... Delicious balance of sweet almonds... nutty vegetal... hard to describe this utterly soothing, delicious tea. I'm ordering more before it sells out...

Since I like bold teas, I found this tea to be quite bland, especially compared to many of the fine Darjeelings offered by SpecialTeas.

Reviewer: Dr D,
Makaibari teas in this price range have been staples of our Darjeeling collection ever since we began drinking tea regularly a number of years ago. The current lot of #147 seems to have a bolder leaf style and brew a slightly lighter cup than others I have sampled. Very drinkable, but not quite as rich and flavorful as some earlier lots.

This is a distinctive and clean tea as described. It's flavor has a uniqueness that is not heavy but one that is curious. Tasting this one may bring you to a pause to express "mmm" for a moment. The leaves are rather large, so I crush them a little (but never to dust). This helps to make the cup richer with this particular tea. Is among my latest reorder!
