Well balanced and very fragrant.

I ordered this because my very favorite, Salonah, is apparently no longer available. I was not at all happy--this tea tastes like tomatoes. I like tomatoes, but I don't want a tea that tastes like them. It's just plain nasty.

I like black teas of all kinds (english breakfast, irish breakfast, etc.) and this is the best tasting tea I have found. I like all Assam teas, in general, and I like teas with strong tannins (which some find bitter). This tea is really my favorite Assam even over some that are much more expensive. It is also a tea that I never tire of (unlike some of the flavored teas).

A surprisingly excellent Assam, possibly the best. I am a heavy Assam drinker and have tried every single Assam on specialteas. The winners are a tie between Meleng (#266) and Harmutty. Yes, Harmutty really is that good, better than many other excellent Assams in their own right like Mangalam, Rembeng or Salonah. What I look for in an Assam is primarily balance between a strong foreground flavor and a complex bouquet of flavors. Harmutty has a typical Assam strong malty foreground and a pronounced light-fruity-flowery background (apple/peach/pear? blossoms or fruit?) How strong the fruity flavor is seems to vary with the harvest or something else, in some packages it may be if anything too strong. The malty flavor can be varied by how long you steep for, it can get too strong or bitter if left steeping too long. My perfect recipe: one heaping tablespoon of Harmutty in 2.2 cups of distilled water, steeped for 3 minutes *exactly*, served with quite a bit of milk and sugar. Enjoy! P.S. Time to order another 2lb package.

The dry aroma is like a fruit roll-up! Once water is added, the maltiness comes out. I did not get any of the bitterness that other customers have mentioned. To me, it was quite mellow and balanced (3:30 brew).

I just received a sample yesterday. Brewing for the recommended 3 minutes, I found this tea to be nicely malty with a hint of fruit, but a quite bitter aftertaste. Milk helps with the bitterness some, so it is probably tannins. Milk and sugar make it drinkable.

Not a fan. Bland, almost "dirty" tasting. I've never thrown out a tea before now, but I guess there is a first time for everything.

Was not as impressed with this tea as I thought I would be. I think this would make a bettrer iced tea than a hot tea, because of the astringent quality. Cream makes this less harsh as well.

Reviewer: Chris,
It has a rich, brisk flavor and brews a somewhat "thick" full-bodied liquor. I think it's even richer and tastier with milk.
