Hazelbank was a real surprise! I was looking for a malty Assam---this is not it. It does have an apple-fruity essence, however, which is delightful. Most importantly, this tea has a VERY clean finish with no offensive astringency. Worth every penny, and then some.

From another lover of Assams, - this one is really good, a great value. Perhaps the most fragrant of all Assams I tried. You'll see (or smell!) what I mean once the bag is opened. It is more fragrant than the $17 Assams, although of course not as balanced. Also, if you like your Assam strong, malt, and character, and all, - this one you wouldn't want to drink every day. (This is what I discovered once I got the 2 lb bag.) Still, I am not taking off any stars, this is a unique tea and great value. Vlad

Aha! Hazelbank! Now this is the stuff. Flowerly, sweet, malty, oh this is my favorite Assam by far. Strong tastes of honey and flowers. It is twice as good as anything else around the price- just make sure to buy enough, you'll go through it like water!

Definatley not a self-standing tea, despite what the fruity aroma suggest. However, with a little milk and some sugar the apple undertones are there and make this amazing tea. Really good morning tea- I haven't had morning coffee since I got this.

Some teas take a few cups before you can appreciate them. Not the Hazelbank, it was interesting (and enjoyable) right from the first sip. Good body and maltiness, without being one-dimensional. Yes, the apple is there. I'll be ordering more of this one.

This was the best Assam in the under $6 1/4 pound range that I tried. Site's description was correct about the fruity/apple undertone. I prefer medium bodied tea and don't like to add milk and sugar to my tea. I am able to drink this tea self standing.

Reviewer: Paul,
This tea from Hazelbank was definitely handled with care, as the leaves are quite tippy. As an oolong lover, I am not in the habit of adding milk and sugar to my teas, but I make an exception for my morning cup of Assam. However, here I find that the milk and sugar seem to erase the "apple undertone" that this tea is said to have. I've never tried a SpecialTeas Assam that I didn't like, but I'd put the Majulighur and especially the Salonah higher than this Hazelbank in my pantheon of favorites. Still, if you prefer slightly less body in your Assam and want a complex tea without paying a high price, this Hazelbank is probably right up your alley. And my wife, who is rather finicky about her Assams, really enjoys this one.

I am an avid assam drinker, and this is truly a treat. Very smooth, with a distinct fruity-apple taste.
