264 Assam Mangalam FTGFOP1 (CL/SP) [HOME] All Customer ReviewsAverage Customer Review: Write an online review and share your thoughts with other customers. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewer: A tea Drinker, Torrance ,CA April 02, 2008 A fine Assam, but with one problem, which makes me not like it quite as well on its own. As any Assam, there is a strong malty foreground and a background of nice complex flavors, both fairly laid back in this case. However here the malty foreground has a more noticeable flavor of its own, rather than just that smooth tannin flavor that you're probably familiar with. Hard to describe, maybe pumpkin or sweet potato? Just a touch, and not at all unpleasant, but enough to make the mix not well balanced. However, this works *great* in a mix with a small amount of any tea with a strong foreground flavor on its own. Some suggested recipes would be 3/4 Mangalam, 1/4 Yunnan Royal Garden (#509), and 3/4 Mangalam, 1/4 Keemun Hao-Ya A (#503). A half-half mix with Nilgiri or Ceylon (Kenilworth?) works fine also. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewer: A tea Drinker, Germantown ,MD January 16, 2008 Excellent. I just ordered a bit more. It is quite different this year (Sept 2007 was my previous order) - smaller leaf and more tippy. Taste also seems more intense than before, which is of course harder to compare, since I don't have anything left from the old batch, but the looks I remember. It has definitely changed, and, I think, for the better. Well worse the price. Clearly the best Assam I can buy from SpecialTeas now. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewer: A tea Drinker, Pittsburgh ,PA June 28, 2006 This tea took a little time to appreciate. At first I found it smooth, medium malty, but sort of bland. Steeping a little strong helps bring out the complexity; in particular I get a really interesting aftertaste with perhaps a touch of citrus fruity in it. For me the Mangalam is more robust and flavorful than the 266 Meleng. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewer: A tea Drinker, St. Louis ,MO January 03, 2006 My favorite Assam of the ones listed on this website. Wonderful with a splash of milk and some sugar. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewer: JENNIFER , O'SULLIVAN , Pasadena ,MD September 01, 2005 Absolutely my favorite Assam of the bunch. Great body and flavor. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewer: Ken , Calhoun , Silsbee ,TX August 04, 2005 Excellent dark tea. Nice thick mouth feel. With sweetener it gives a pleasant “tea” taste with no bitterness at all. Slight astringency. Good strong tea. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewer: Scott from Ohio, I'm glad Specialteas carries a fuller leaf Mangalam Assam because I've tried the broken leaf Mangalam, and prefer the smoothness of the fuller leaf. This is rather hearty (that's good).I've never had such a full, smooth, flavorful Assam. A little rock sugar really compliments this great tea without masking its fine qualities. Please restock this Mangalam in the future if possible. ![]() |
