This is an awesome tea. It brews up a beautiful dark color with a smooth complex flavor that is never "mean". It easily goes 2 steeps and I frequently combine 2nd and 3rd steeps to make iced tea. I am reordering this one, because I love knowing I have this tea as a choice for any day!

Vithanakande is an extraordinary tea, among a host of relatively similar variants. Ceylon teas in general tend toward the brisk, clean, and 'dry'. Vithanakande, in either grade, is a wholely different animal. First, in this mid-grade crop, the leaf is very fine, very tight and tippy. The extract has an old-fashioned cedar-chest aroma that is just a bit out of balance with the oaky-lemony flavor. But none-the-less, very pleasing. Second, the briskness of the FBOPF1 is quite muted - especially among Ceylons. Not bland, just quite different. the FBOPF/EX is extraordinary, having a long thin wiry leaf (think of a piece of string nearly a half inch long). It has the balance, the finesse. Yet, of all the teas in the $4.95/4oz range that I've bought here, this one clearly holds one of the best values across the board. VG-to-EX is my rating.
