This tea was recommended to me by the staff at Special Teas years ago. This has become one of my favorite teas. Even though this technically is referred to as an Oolong, I notice that I feel the same health benefits as when I drink green tea from Special Teas. I have thyroid and blood sugar issues, and everytime I drink green tea, along with this Oolong (which I call a green tea anyway because the level of fermentation is mild, making it closer to being green tea in my opinion) I notice an increase in my energy level, my blood sugar stabalizes for hours longer than if I don't drink any, and my mental acuteness lasts substantially longer as well. I believe wholeheartedly in natural medicine, and I consider green tea to be a part in maintaining overall better health. I've been a Special Teas customer for 5 years now, and I'm consistently amazed at their level of quality and the price? Well, considering how much I've seen loose tea sell for in specialty tea stores? I'm thrilled with what I get for the price!! Oh, and the taste? When recommended to me, it was referred to as having an orchid like taste. Seeing as I've never tasted an orchid, not sure that's what it is, but it is a floral taste and a wonderful floral taste at that. Reminds me of something similar to a Jasmine tea, yet different.

This is a wonderful, classic oolong, and a great deal for the money. It's my current go-to favorite if I want an oolong.

I like this oolong, and I'm reordering. The flavor may be just a bit cloudy -- it does not have the exquisite distinctive tones of some of the pricier oolongs (but this may be my water also -- I'm going to a new filter system this weekend!). However, given that this oolong is 1/2 the price of the next more expensive offering, I consider it a value too good to pass up. It is a very nice tea and I am quite happy with it.

I tried this as part of the Oolong Sample Collection, and really enjoyed it. It's nicely floral, not overwhelming. I will probably reorder while I wait for the Iron Goddess to be back in stock.

I ordered about 10 different oolongs to sample and the 513, although not the best, offered the best value for. The 617, Fanciest Oolong is my favorite. Mum, who doesn't like green teas, asked me to send her some of the 617 as I affectionately call it. Despite the glory of 617, I will reorder 513, because it is almost as good and about half the price. Cheers!

I fell in love with this tea the first time that I made it. We are unorthodox tea drinkers as we make ours in a 12 cup drip coffee maker. I always toss out the first cup that drips through, as per more formal instructions. This makes a big difference in reducing the sharpness and allowing the sweet flavor and aroma to come through. During the day I just add water and run additional pots through the original 3 teaspoons I put in the filter. I can taste the changes in flavor with the additional infusions. I never expected that this tea, which I bought on a lark, would become my favorite.

Tried the Oolong sampler as part of my very first introduction to drinking teas. This tea was the first packet to run out. The aroma is intoxicating, and the flavor is subtle. I noticed a slight tin aftertaste, as noted by other reviewers, but it didn't take away from the overall experience. Wonderful tea.

4 stars on flavor, 5 stars over all because one can get 4 good infusions! A heaping tsp per 5-6oz brewed in guywan at 1:30, 2:00, 2:30, 3:15, 4:00. I enjoy the flavor shift in each cup.

I tried this tea within an Oolong sampler. It is a good tea, but 515 is much better. The unsteaped tea has a nice oily aroma. I got 3 good infusions.

I've tried many teas here, and this one remains my favorite: nutty, earthy taste; for people who like savory rather than floral teas. My one complaint is that there is a slight tin-like aftertaste, as noted by another reviewer. It doesn't bother me much, but if I could find a tea just like this one without that aftertaste, I would be in heaven

I guess this tea was good, but I couldn't help noticing a taste like tin.

Reviewer: MMS,
Boy is this good. It has a strong aroma of piikaki flowers, making each sniff a trip to the islands. The flavor is much more subtle than the the aroma, but nice and delicate. Good stuff.

Reviewer: Alan Boehmer,
I loved this tea. Couldn't stop drinking it.

Reviewer: Heather from MA,
Agreed! I love the sweet almost honey-like flavor. I also find it holds very well for multiple infusions.

Reviewer: Cameron Lewis,
My experience was completely different. After trying both the recommended method and gongfu many times, I can't get this tea to work. Though I've gotten some decent nutty aromas out of it the taste has always been stale and slightly phenolic.

Reviewer: Travis KU,
Roasted almonds with a slight honey aftertaste that is reminiscent of a hearty bowl of oatmeal.

Reviewer: Rob,
Excellent Oolong for the price. Nice nutty aroma with solid flavor. Again, for the price, you can't beat it.
