This is one Ti Kuan Yin that seems to require slightly longer steeping time; if you give it a full 3 minutes, you will find the first infusion to be a bit more flavorful. At the recommended brew time, I would agree with some of the previous comments -- it is a very soft, subtle tasting oolong that leaves you longing for the flavor and complexity that are meerly hinted at in the first infusion. I guess I'm saying that if you only infuse this tea one time, you are missing out because the more complex flavors come out in the second and third infusion, which are delightful!

This tea is disappointly bland and relatively tasteless. I expected a more interesting, complex flavor.

The taste is too bland for the tea of this grade. The scent is very light as well. I'd look somewhere else if one wants to enjoy a full-flavored oolong.

I prefer #511 China Fine Ti Kuan Yin Oolong to the superior grade. It might just be my taste but this one is too delicate for me, while #511 has much more flavor. Besides that though this tea is not bad, you can see the quality of the leaves and it does have some nice notes. Just not strong enough for me.

I tried this tea in the Oolong sampler and liked it better than the lower grade, 513. It is twisted and multi-colored with a nice oily aroma before brewing. The first infusion is nicely oily. Good for almost 3 infusions.

This is my absolute favorite from SpecialTeas. Easily good for three infusions, the delicate floral tones are balanced by a grassy earthen foundation. Every sip is to be savored. I brew each infusion at 190 degrees successively longer for 1.5, 2, then 2.5 minutes.

My favorite of the three grades of Ti Kuan Yin. The fine grade I find to be seaweedy in flavor, yes, I know weird term, but it reminds me of some green teas. The monkey picked is beautiful but very light and flowery, with a gorgeous scent, but it feels like drinking flower water. The superior is just right, the flavor is more assertive, but still retains the calming delicate orchidlike flavor. It has more "weight" to it. The first cup scent is heavenly, and the flavor holds well to the second cup.

Reviewer: Anna from Hoboken,
This oolong truly is a delight. To me, it has an even stronger "orchid", flowery fragrance and flavor than the Monkey Picked variety! Lovely!

Reviewer: Lori,
After trying several Oolongs, I've found this one to be well worth it. I will keep buying it.

Reviewer: Paul,
This oolong reminds me of "high mountain" teas from Nantou County on Taiwan - lightly oxidized, partially rolled, with great flowery fragrance. Just as SpecialTeas claimed, the leaf appearance is inconsistent; when brewed, you can see that some leaves are partially broken. However, I would guess that this is actually helpful in bringing out the flavor of this mild tea. A great evening tea; the second and third brews have little or no caffeine but plenty of taste.
