I find this to be a distinct and enjoyable tea with a unique aroma, taste and aftertaste. For me personally, I think of it as a great 'changeup' pitch and not an all-day-everyday tea like I use Fine Lung Ching, but everyone's different. Be Warned: as other reviews suggest it's very easy to brew a powerful/nasty batch of this tea. Use the rec'd serving (size and time) or less per cup or you'll likely regret it.

Robust and refreshing, with sinister undertones. Great iced! The James Cagney of teas.

I recently ordered the green tea sampler, and found this to be my favorite. wonderful quality and smell (my girlfriend thinks it smells like fresh cut grass, which I suppose is a good thing?) wonderful tea. Also the first tea I have ever liked without the addition of sugar. as always, I am deeply impressed with the quality of the tea here. the tea provided here is truly special tea.

I found this tea the best to switch from coffee to green tea. Excellent for iced tea.

Reviewer: Mark,
I was looking for a green tea that was less vegatal than most. This is definately a good choice for that purpose. It's light and doesn't really have a smoky taste. I'm ordering more.

Reviewer: L. Givens,
I found this tea to be quite strong and bitter despite following preperation instructions closely.

Reviewer: Bubba,
This tea makes a brisk and refreshing cup. I'm very happy with it.

Reviewer: Susan Kinney,
Temple of Heaven Gunpowder, made correctly, is one of my favorite teas. You have to be careful not to use too much, however, too use to much or the tea will taste harsh.

Reviewer: Dennis,
I have tasted cups of this tea that were fantastic, and some that were harsh. Thanks to previous comments, I will brew with less tea. Also, I will use sub-boiling water, and shorter brew time to (hopefully) get that smooth, green tea flavor.

Reviewer: Jim W.,
I don't know if Gunpowder tea is supposed to smell like this, but mine smelled like burnt tobacco. Not surprisingly, it tasted like burnt tobacco. I've been happy with the other green teas I have received from SpecialTeas, but this one is not a keeper on my list.

Reviewer: Mike in KY,
I found the dominant taste to be sweetness, and each sip has a momentary aftertaste that reminds me of honeydew melon. I could not detect a smoky aroma in the bag or cup, nor did the first cup have any detectable smokiness. But after drinking several cups there was a slightly unpleasant taste/sensation in my mouth and throat that was like I had eaten some cigarette ash. In spite of that, I still recommend trying it - one cup at a time.

Reviewer: Susan Kinney,
My original comments indicated that I could make a very good cup of this tea if made correctly. Since then, either the tea has changed or I have lost the ability to correctly brew this tea. All my pots for the last six months have tasted harsh, even when I ordered a new batch of tea.

Reviewer: Drew,
This tea tied with the Japan Fine Sencha as my favorite in the Green tea sampler I ordered. I am not a big fan of "nutty" or "toasty" nuances in my cup of tea and therefore found this tea very refreshing. I'm more a fan of the "earthy, vegetal, and flowery or orchid-like" hints. Will definitely order again.
