This is a great tea for the price and I'm definately ordering more. I rated it 4 stars, however, because it's not all that green tea can be. This is a green tea style that's woodsy instead of the sought-after grassy-vegital taste of good Sencha or Gyokuro, which you'll find more expensive but with greater complexity. It's my first Hojicha and I therefore wouldn't know how it compares to other Hojicha style teas.

I was looking for a tea similar to the one my local Japanese / Sushi place serves, and I found it in this one. It's a nice fresh / woodsy tasting green that has quickly become my afternoon favorite.

I'll preface this by saying I'm like black teas more than green but for a green tea I'd rate this a solid 5-star winner. I purchased it based on the other favorable reviews on this tea. Thanks to those reviewers, otherwise I would have never tried Hojicha Green! In the last few weeks I've been taste testing various high priced oolongs and green teas and consider Hojicha Green as the best of all the lighter charactered teas I've sampled. The toasted tea leaves adds a wonderful complexity not found in the others I've sampled. It will be the most often reached for non-black tea that I'll be drinking for a while.

This is my favorite tea from your site. It has a wonderful aroma and a smooth flavor. Assam lovers will really appreciate its nutty/malty taste.

My husband and I buy pounds of this at a time. It is our main staple tea. Fabulous warm toasty nutty flavor. Best nutty tea I've had. I drink it with raw honey to enhance the flavor. We waited for this tea to come back in stock for 8 months (we had it on backorder). We were a bit freaked out it would never come, but we were thrilled when it finally arrived. YAY!! This is also fabulous with meals. I highly recommend this tea!! I would be incredibly sad if SpecialTeas ever decided to stop carrying this tea.

Hojicha is the ultimate cozy comfort tea in Japan. Being roasted, it is a stronger wilder taste than Japanese green tea in particular, but definitely reminds one of sitting around the fireplace (or brazier) at home, warm and happy.

While I normally drink black tea with milk and sugar in the mornings, this is my afternoon "power" tea. I love the nutty, toasty flavor!

This tea is my absolute favorite. It does have distinct earthy aroma to it. It's the only tea I’ve found with a truly nutty flavor to it…somewhere between almond and hazelnut. I brew it at work using the hot water spigot from our water cooler. It’s a smooth tea that doesn't get bitter with longer infusing time and you can reuse the leaves for a 2nd brew.
