Japan is known the world over for having especially high quality green tea. Japanese green tea is nearly always steamed, rather than pan-fired. The brewed tea tends to be bright green in cup color and have a sweet, grassy or vegetal flavor. Sencha is the principal exported Japanese Green tea and is offered in a wide range of qualities. Some other classic Japanese green teas are Bancha, Genmaicha (brown rice tea) and the extraordinary Gyokuro.
