Goomtee
Tea Garden
|
The Goomtee Tea Garden is set in picturesque surroundings, located in the prime
quality tea producing belt of the Darjeeling region of India; between Jungpana
to the East and Castleton to the West. It includes several waterfalls and a beautifully landscaped flower garden
surrounding a heritage bungalow.
With temperatures that are cool to moderate and
generous rainfall, the Goomtee estate is perfectly located for production of
quality tea. Teas of the
China variety have been planted on the mountain slopes between 3000 and
6000 feet. Alternating mist and
sunshine produce the slow growing conditions that are so vital for the natural
quality development in the leaf. Mr.
Henry Montgomery Lennox, a British pioneer planter, planted the tea garden in
1899. The name Goomtee
is an ethnic name, based on the Nepali word Ghumti which translates
to place of turning. The original 100 year old bushes have been carefully
preserved by not adopting uprooting and replanting programs. This protect precious topsoil and retains traditional
quality. |
