China Black Tea
China is known as the "cradle of tea". While traditionally a green tea country,
it produces a variety of black teas that are unquestionably among the best in the world. They are generally soft flavorful teas
that are low in astringency.
China Keemun
Called the "Burgundy of Tea" for its superb bouquet, Keemun obtains its highly distinctive aroma from a sub-variety of the tea plant found only in the North Chinese Anhui Province. The Chinese describe the complex and unique aroma of this naturally sweet tea as orchid-like, some compare it to ripe fruit and others speak of baked bread coming fresh out of the oven.
China Yunnan
Although the South China Yunnan province has produced green tea for 1,700 years - a tea tree of the same age can still be found there - black tea production started only about 60 years ago. Today, Yunnan is the leading producer of black tea in China. Yunnan teas, fairly complex in flavor, have in common a certain spiciness or peppery character.
China Fujian Province
While not as well known as the Keemuns and the Yunnans, the high-end teas from the Fujian Province are amongst the most flavorful and aromatic black teas, popular for their natural sweetness.
