I ordered a couple of these - they are not airtight as the other reviewer had advised. However, you can make it airtight several ways using mcgyver skills. The rim of the lid overlaps by about an inch, so even though it's not airtight there is very little or no air flowing through the empty space of the cannister.

UPDATE to my earlier review. The fix I described there works. Now it's nearly perfect. Still, be careful when handling it. Do not over-tighten and make sure that your grip is not too strong when holding it.

I have about a dozen of these, all from specialteas.com. They are not airtright. I think I fixed this by cutting out round pieces from a Sears brand tool box liner and by putting them in the top of the canister, two in each top. I hope it works. If it does, then I could upgrade my ratings to 5 stars. We'll see. WARNING. Screw the top in and out very gently. Any extra force will "pop" the top.
