This teapot is fantastic and simple to use. However, the matching "smart" cup isn't so smart (see what I wrote in reviewing the cup). The pot will work with any cup with a rim 3 to 3 3/4 inches wide that holds as much tea as you want to brew (up to 18 oz), so there's no need to buy the "smart" cup anyway.

Very good product, although the mesh filter tends to stain. I use it daily at my office desk. Also Speacial Teas, does not seem to sell the Smart Mug pictured with the tea maker.* Because of this, two to three cups need to be at hand to empty the pot completely in order to prevent over-brewing. *Note from SpecialTeas: The Smart Mug can be found at http://www.specialteas.com/Tea-ware/Glass-Ware

This maker gets lots of points for "oooh factor" initially. It is really fun to place the maker onto a mug and see the tea drain semi-magically. But I concur completely with another reviewer. This Tea Maker makes good tea, but it is more cumbersome to clean and maintain than the cheaper and simpler permanent tea filters. My problem is that my office sink has no disposal. I have to try to scoop the tea leaves into the trash, or try to filter them in the sink drain. Also, I forgot and left wet tea leaves in it overnight a couple of times. Very quickly mold or mildew started to form in the crevices of the drain mesh. It is impossible to get the black stain out. After trying for a few weeks to come up with an efficient way to clean this thing at work, I tried a $6.95 permanent tea filter. I will never look back...

This tea maker is the best invention since the light bulb. Just put the tea in, fill it with hot water, let it steep, set it on top of your cup and out pours the easiest cup of tea you've ever made. Easy to clean too -- just dump out the tealeaves and give it a rinse. Once in a while pop it in the dishwasher, although it's not really necessary. I've already bought three of these to give away-- wrap one up with a few SpecialTeas tea samples and you've got a great inexpensive gift!

I'm not sure what's so "smart" about this tea maker. I have been using the permanent tea filters (made by Teeli) for years but decided to try this because I got roped in by the marketing. It does a good job brewing tea, but it is cumbersome and harder to empty than the Teeli filters, which I can wholeheartedly recommend.
