SpecialTeas, Inc. imports and distributes a variety of fine loose-leaf tea and herbal infusions that are Certified 100% organic. We purchase our organic tea from only certified growers and we are certified to handle (repack) these Organic teas.
It is important to understand what "Certified 100% organic" means:
The growing, handling, processing, storing, packaging, and labeling of an organic product is regulated by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) in a set of guidelines set forth by the National Organic Program (NOP). To make sure that these guide lines are followed, a certifying agent inspects and audits on a yearly basis each entity involved: the farm where the tea is grown, and the handler and processor that packages the product, etc. Certificates are issued so that the consumer is assured that the tea was grown, handled and processed under strict adherence to the NOP guidelines.
100% organic - as defined by the NOP, must contain 100% organically produced ingredients. (Products may also be labeled "organic" which is defined as containing no less that 95% organically produced ingredients.)
Specialteas is certified as an organic processor and handler.
We are inspected and audited yearly by a certifying agent and issued a certificate that we have met the USDA - National Organic Program standards for handling organic tea. We are required to have on file, a certificate for each tea we label and sell as organic; This guarantees that what we are labeling and selling as organic tea is indeed organically grown. To maintain the integrity of the organic tea that SpecialTeas imports and to prevent the commingling of organic and non-organic teas, we follow strict guideline for the storing and repackaging of the tea. Our warehouse personnel are educated as to the standard operating procedures for organic teas and the importance of strict adherence to these procedures. Additionally, we track inventory from receipt of the bulk tea through the sale of the various sized bags using the lot number given to us by the grower and our SKU number.
